33 weeks

Just a few things from this week...

-Gooseberry is the size of a durian! Holy moly, he is getting big. I might also say that durian is one of the nastiest fruits I have ever eaten and is one that I do not crave. It's one fruit I have never seen in the States... probably because it smells and tastes of vomit. I kid you not. When the size chart says the baby is the size of a durian (much like with any of the other fruits) I am assuming it means the average size, because I have seen some massive durian and there is no way my baby is that big!

- We celebrated Christmas with family and friends, it was a wonderful Christmas. I just love Christmas. What I don't love about it is that when you wake up the morning after Christmas, it's all gone. It's like the Christmas magic disappears. Too suddenly. I suppose that makes me extra thankful for a wonderful Christmas and Christmas Eve.

- I am very much enjoying being on Christmas break. A little bit too much maybe as I don't feel like doing any work at all, and there are things that I would like to do before school starts next week. I am just finding it incredibly difficult to motivate myself to do house work, let alone school work. The lingering thought of returning to school haunts me every day...

- I feel huge. And things (my belly) is starting to get a wee bit uncomfortable, especially at night. But it's good because it means that Gooseberry is growing!

- We are having our first shower this weekend. I am getting very excited! This means the time for Gooseberry to appear is getting very near!

- I made a list of things to pack for the hospital and put a few of the things together. I'm not really sure what I'll need, but it helped me feel prepared by making a list and thinking about what I might need. I don't want to take a bunch of stuff, but I want to be sure I have what I need (and would like). Suggestions are welcome.

-  Gooseberry is very active these days and it is very visible!!

I hope you all have a good night celebrating the New Year! I'm pretty sure I will be curled up on my couch at home... probably watching the back of my eyelids :)

winter wonderful

This morning I was greeted by a blanket of snow outside my house. The branches of the trees were being hugged with the freshly fallen snow.

I love the snow.

Puppy loves the snow.

It's so peaceful and calm.

It makes me feel like I need to drink a mug of hot chocolate. So nice and cozy.

Thankfully the Hubs and I don't have much to do today and can enjoy looking out the window and the freshly fallen snow.

I hope you and yours have a peaceful day.

Merry Christmas at 32 weeks

Just a few highlights from this week...

- 32 weeks... baby boy is the size of squash!

- We went to the doctor and she said you (Gooseberry) were getting really big!! She told me that I have grown 5 centimeters since our last appointment (almost a month ago). That's a lot of growing in there. It's no wonder that I am feeling HUGE these days. But it's ok. Keep growing, it means you're healthy, right? She also said I'm measuring two weeks ahead of schedule... so. yeah. There's that.

- Gooseberry is kicking [moving] all of the time. It is very easy to see now and I love watching him move. The doctor said that's also a good thing, all the moving :)

-It's Christmas tomorrow! I Love Christmas.

- We had some friends over for a little Christmas dinner the other night. I quite enjoyed fixing dinner and spending the evening with some very dear friends.

- It snowed. It was a tease more then anything. It was a light dusting, but it was snow just the same.

- We are having maternity pictures taken this week! I am soooo excited! I can't wait to take the pictures and then share them! yay!! I think they will turn out beautifully! Can't wait!

- That's where I'll stop. I hope you you all have a joyful Christmas!

nothing to say

A few things have been going on around here other than just the baby. In fact, most days everything to do with Gooseberry seems to just stay quiet. Every now and then the Hubs and I will talk about how crazy it is that we are actually having a baby, about how in two months our lives will be forever changed, about how we need to live it up right now and do this or that... But, in general, we go to our places of work, come home, eat a somewhat nutritious meal (somewhat being the key word :), watch a show together, and go to bed. Pretty exciting stuff let me tell you.

School is really what is on my mind these days. Probably because I spend the majority of my days at school, with my kids, trying to figure out what I can do to help that student with the F bring his grade up, or what I can do to help that student who has suddenly started acting out how to get his act together and clam down in my classroom. Thinking about how I am going to fit in all the material I need to by Christmas break and still have time to review and give the final. Thinking about all of the papers and projects that are waiting me to grade them. Thinking about how to breathe and maintain my sanity during it all.

Then once I get home I feel like doing absolutely nothing, and for the most part, I do absolutely nothing. I let dishes stack up more than I ever have before. I let laundry go unfolded for much longer than I ever have before. I don't even do the laundry until myself or the Hubs have run out of clean clothes (which isn't very long considering my wardrobe is a lot more limited these days than it has been in the past). The awful part about it all is that I just don't care. That's just not my personality. I hate messes and can't function well when surrounded by messes. These days.... eh. What's a little pile of dishes? Terrible, I tell you!

I suppose there really is no point to this other than for me to ramble on a little bit. But sometimes, I just need to ramble. I'm sure there will be more to come as soon I will have all the time in the world (that's right, Christmas Break).

Anyhow. I will go to bed now and spare you from more rambling. For tonight.

I hope you all had a fantastic Wednesday!

Baby Boy's Picture

It occurred to me the other day that I have not yet shared a picture of our baby boy. This is his first picture at 21 weeks.

unknown.jpg

It was crazy to see him and it's crazy to think that he is a lot bigger now than he was in the picture!

Anyhow. There's that. Gooseberry's first picture :)

That's all for today. Happy Sunday!

baby bump week 30

Pregnancy Highlights

How far along: 30 weeks
(which is crazy! 30 weeks! That just seems so far along! It's like this pregnancy is almost over or something. I mean, I know I still have a ways to go, but 30 weeks just seems like it's near the end!)
baby is the size of a cucumber (interesting I think)

Total Weight Gain/Loss: 22

Maternity Clothes: they are my favorite right now

Best Moment this Week: getting the pictures fixed for this here blog! Actually, I didn't fix anything. I just happened to try uploading a picture and it worked this time. The message didn't pop up and say I had run out of space and needed to buy more. This makes me so happy! I hope I don't have any more trouble with it!

Gender: boy

Movement: He moves so much! He can be quite distracting while I'm teaching. All I want to do is look down and see my belly move.

Food Cravings: popcorn, the kind that comes in a Christmas tin... especially caramel :)

Food aversions: the same.

What I Miss: not having to go to the bathroom all the time (teaching is quite inconvenient. I can't just go to the bathroom any time I want or need to, which is becoming more frequent).

Sleep: fine. I've been flipping from side to side a lot lately, and getting hot (which never happens)

What I am looking forward to: Christmas Break! one more week of school after this week!

baby is the size of an acorn squash!

Total Weight Gain/Loss: I think I've lost count. 18?

Maternity Clothes: I especially enjoy sweat pants when I get home from school :)

Best Moment this Week: The weekend, and taking a very nice, very long nap!

Gender: boy :)

Movement: I feel like he has been kicking and punching. Is that possible. I will feel him in two different places. It really felt like he was boxing or something like that in there this morning. ...good to know he is easily entertained.

Food Cravings: fruit maybe.

Food aversions: chicken is nasty. Seeing it makes me want to vomit.

What I Miss: being able to post pictures on my blog! I need to figure this out, soon!

Sleep: it is one of my favorite things. I'm trying to sleep as much as possible these days.

What I am looking forward to: cuddling on the couch with a good book this weekend.

baby bump week 28

Pregnancy Highlights

How far along: 28 weeks
baby is the size of an eggplant!

Total Weight Gain/Loss: 16-ish pounds? But who's really keeping track? I'm not.

Maternity Clothes: yep yep.

Best Moment this Week: Spending Thanksgiving with my sister and her family!! It snowed while we were visiting her up in Minnesota!! :)

Gender: baby boy :)

Movement: He moves a lot, I like it when he kicks!

Food Cravings: I wanted gummy bears the other day. But we were driving and when we did stop, the gas station didn't have any. How can a gas station not have any gummy bears?! So I did not get to enjoy them, it was probably for the best .

Food aversions: nope.

What I Miss: being to turn over effortlessly while I'm sleeping.

Sleep: I have been pretty sleepy lately.

What I am looking forward to: The weekend! Is that sad? Since we spent a whole day driving I feel like I lost my weekend. Oh well. At least it was for a very good reason.

baby bump week 27

Pregnancy Highlights

How far along: 27 weeks
baby is the size of a rutabaga (whatever that is :)

Total Weight Gain/Loss: 14-15-ish pounds

Maternity Clothes: I love the maternity pants, they are just so comfy! I feel like I'm wearing the same five things over again, though. Thank goodness for a washing machine :)

Best Moment this Week: We went to the doctor and heard Gooseberry's heartbeat, and his kicking... that's what the doctor said (I think :). I love hearing his little heartbeat!

Gender: baby boy :)

Movement: He has been kicking so much! I think he is especially fond of Christmas music and "To Kill a Mockingbird"

Food Cravings: I felt the need to make Frog Eye Salad this week (I should share a picture, it's not what you think. It's really like a fruit salad type dish, and it is de-lish!!)

Food aversions: I tried eating some chicken, but it really grossed me out, I let the hubs finish my sandwich.

What I Miss: being able to pick out anything I want from my closet. It's pretty limited these days.

baby bump week 26

No more catching up to do. It's official, I am 26 weeks along. Crazy! In about three months Gooseberry is going to be here, I can't wait to meet the little guy :)

Pregnancy Highlights

How far along: 26 weeks
baby is the size of a head of lettuce

Total Weight Gain/Loss: +13 pounds

Maternity Clothes: Mostly all I wear. Though some times I wear regular tops.

Best Moment this Week: We registered! :) I'm sure there is a lot I am forgetting or that I won't know I need/won't need until later on, I'm just happy to have started. Ideas are most welcome. We went to Target last night and are going to Babies R Us tonight. I wanted to keep it to two places, but I didn't like any of the bedding at either of those stores so I also registered at Amazon.

Gender: boy :) he almost has a name.

Movement: I love it when he kicks, which is frequently.

Food Cravings: It is still the same, and I don't that that I crave it, I just really enjoy eating fruit.

Food aversions: no (other than nasty chicken that is)

What I Miss: laying on my belly or back. But it's not too bad.

Sleep: I am trying to sleep as much as I possibly can. I hear that sleep will never be quite the same after a baby comes :)

What I am looking forward to: Getting his room cleaned up. We are very close to clearing out his room, the big things have moved, it's just small things now.

baby bump 25 weeks

Pregnancy Highlights

How far along: 25 weeks

Total Weight Gain/Loss: +13 pounds

Maternity Clothes: Yes, yes. But still some regular shirts and dresses.

Best Moment this Week: Actually feeling pregnant. I look like I have a baby belly now.

Gender: boy

Movement: Oh, goodness yes! I love how much he wiggles. We were reading in class this week and I felt him squirming around in my tummy so I looked down ... I saw him moving. It was crazy and very amazing.

Food Cravings: Strawberries and grapes. Also cookies... that could be bad.

Food aversions: Still none. Thankfully.

What I Miss: Nothing. I really like having this little bit in my belly.

Sleep: Thee pillows now. One for my feet and one for each side. It's easier than switching the pillow in the middle of the night to the other side when I flip over. And I am sleeping much much better now.

What I am looking forward to: Registering! I have been looking at lots of baby things and am excited to go register.

it's a nice day

Today is voting day. I got up bright and early with the Hubs and we went to vote before he left for work. Some how I lucked out and we didn't have school today :) Let me just say it has been wonderful being at home. I absolutely love it. It feels like it has been forever since I have had a day at home to get stuff done.

This morning I cleaned up the kitchen and finished working on (cleaning up) the office/guest room. I don't remember if I mentioned that we moved the office/guest room downstairs so that baby boy's room can be upstairs by ours. It was quite the project, thankfully I have awesome in-laws and they came to help us move everything we needed to. For some reason I'm not allowed to help move large and heavy objects lately :) ... so their help was much appreciated. The only thing left to do after the furniture was in its new home was to go through the piles of papers and mail that had not been filed or thrown away. It was a process to go through it all, but I got it done. Finally. And it feels wonderful! Now we only have a little more junk upstairs, but that can wait for another day.

There are still a few things I would like/need to do today. A few errands, some small chores around the house, and then of course the papers that need to be graded. ugh. Why do I dread grading papers so much? What makes it such an awful task? Does any one want to come and help me? I would love you forever and always :)

Anyhow, I hope you all have a lovely Tuesday.

baby bump 24 weeks

Pregnancy Highlights

How far along: 24 weeks
baby is the size of a cantaloupe

Total Weight Gain/Loss: +11-13 pounds

Maternity Clothes: It's pretty much all I wear any more. They are just more comfortable. My shirts still fit and I wear them occasionally. But I mostly wear the maternity ones.

Best Moment this Week: starting to get Gooseberry's room ready (read: move all of the junk that was in the room before to a different room so we can make space for baby and his things).

Gender: boy :) we are thinking about names. It's just such a big decision! How do you choose one?

Movement: Oh yes. He is quite active. I love it. Even the Hubs has been able to feel him move.

Food Cravings: Right now, cantaloupe sounds pretty tasty actually. Fruit is just so yummy!

Food aversions: None.

What I Miss: Nothing right now.

Sleep: I love it. I have started sleeping with a pillow for my feet (I read somewhere it can help your legs feel better) and a pillow for each side. Two pillows. Lots of sleep.

What I am looking forward to: Going to the doctor next week! It's a happy time.

baby bump week 23

Pregnancy Highlights

How far along: 23 weeks
baby is the size of a grapefruit!

Total Weight Gain/Loss: +12 pounds

Maternity Clothes: Yes please. Most of my shirts still fit, they are just really tight! My jeans still fit, but are too snug to be comfortable. I much prefer the maternity clothes I have now.

Best Moment this Week: Spending a week with the Hubs in Colorado. He had some work to do and I got to tag along for fun.

Gender: boy :)

Movement: oh, yes. He squirms and kicks quite a bit. I love it!

Food Cravings: Still fresh fruit. Especially strawberries!

Food aversions: nothing really.

What I Miss: nothing that I can think of.

Sleep: it's my favorite part of the day. Is that bad?

What I am looking forward to: not looking awkward any more. I feel like to the people who know I'm pregnant it's obvious. But to everyone else it could look like I just have a big belly.
